Default 2009 Teryx and Muzzy Pipe Test

Muzzy got me again!! Today I installed the Muzzy Teryx exhaust on our brand new 09 Teryx and got good results.

I didn't intend on installing the pipe on the Teryx today but after putting the stock Teryx on the dyno and getting a bone stock base line then pulling the stock exhaust tip out then I was hooked for more power, had a little time so got to it.

My baseline bone stock Teryx HP number was 29.49 HP at peak. I also ran a 0-50mph speed test with it running that in a little over 12 seconds which was not so impressive since my Rhino 700 is now running 0-60 in under 8 seconds.

I didn't do a speed test after pulling the exhaust tip out because I was on the dyno at this time, but pulling the tip out got me to 30.77 HP at peak which is a 1.25 gain, not as much as pulling the stock tip out of the 08 model but a gain none the less and it is free.

So I installed the Muzzy pipe without any hitches really at all, especially since they have new springs that are lots easier on your knuckles. I also got to see first hand all the new shields Kawasaki has installed on the 09 model and a butyl rubber engine shroud to keep noise and engine heat away from the driver. What little bit I drove it, I didn't have as much driver heat as I did on the 08 model.

So the install was done and back to dynoing. Since this is a fuel injected vehicle I wanted to check the air/fuel ratio and install the Muzzy Digitune Fuel Controller.

Funny thing happened, the air/fuel ratio was dang near perfect all the way thru the RPM range and at WOT under a heavy load. I didn't check the air/fuel with the stock pipe because I didn't want to weld a bung in the pipe, got lazy but this proves the Teryx is running really fat from the factory and this is normal for all the manufacturers.

I put the load control to about a 50% load and hammered down and was pleased to see the air/fuel ratio was ok as is. The ratio was slightly over 13 at WOT so I went with it. At this time with only the exhaust mod, I don't see a need in a fuel controller to be added to it. The Rhino sure is not like this.

Now that I was satisfied with the air/fuel ratio I starting making my runs and as usual the Muzzy proved to be making some real power and soon realized it was more power because it was hitting the rev limiter much quicker.

The peak power over bone stock was about 5.25 but the real gain was made over at 43 mph where we got a little under 9hp there. Also notice on the chart that the increase in power starts at 12mph, so you get some power down low too.

Now the real world off the dyno results. The 0-50 mph times as I said earlier went from a little over 12 seconds to a little over 8 seconds. A four second improvement is really big.

So if your looking for a exhaust that really gives you some real world gains then look no further than the Muzzy for your Teryx. Of course we sell them !!

Take a look at the dyno charts below
