I find that they just starting putting that plastic guard over the disk where the parking brake is. That sits almost up to the tire. I believe that started 0n fire and then caught the tire on fire. Like I say I am lucky that it didn't burn my shop down. With out that cover I don't believe, that in this case anyway, that it would have done any damage other than the brake pads as you said. My linkage and everthing stills works.
