Thumbs up HW Teryx Overdrive Cover

Been knowing we could machine a stock cover like everyone else for a while but have hesitated for a couple reasons, the main one was the fear of machining the stock plate and weakening it to the point of failure.

As of yet I have not heard of any failures of this type of product except on a built motor so we do not recommend our cover or anyones cover except for a billet overdrive cover on a built motor. We let the other guys be the guinea pig this time. LOL!!

Another reason we did our own cover was some people didn't want to buy a billet cover and lose their electric engine braking, with machining the stock cover you don't lose the brake.

So what is a overdrive cover anyway?

Basically it is a overdrive just like your car or truck has. We take the stock cover and machine out some of the material to allow the primary clutch or sheave to move in more which pushes the belt up the pully higher which gives a higher gear ratio thus increasing speed.

How much speed? Normally with a stock motor about 4 to 6 mph.

Is there a downside to using a overdrive plate? Depends, depends on who's you have. Just like a machined sheave for a Rhino if you machine too much material you get a lag of sorts which slows acceleration. Kinda like shifting from 3rd gear to 5th gear in a five speed car. Another downside I have seen by another companies machined stock plate is consistant machining. The one we checked out was machined rather sloppy meaning the depths at which the machining was done varied from one machine section to another by as much as .028 in.

Why? Most likely they are not using a jig to hold the stock plate and not doing it on a CNC mill. Both things take the mistakes out of the picture.

Who's is machined like this? Won't say the one but not sure who else is getting it right and who is not, we just know what we are doing on ours.

Does this mean the Hunterworks is the only one right? No, but it is kinda gambling, beside we are priced about the same as any other.

As mentioned earlier we don't over do the machining either as you could go more but run into problems that the gain in speed does not make it worth it.

Also we are using brand new covers, not used ones.

These work on 08 and 09 models.

My stock 09 with muzzy pipe runs 63mph with this plate, no guarentee yours will go this fast but ours does. Speed is variable by several things such as tire size, tire weight, other mods, belt adjustment etc.

Couple other benefits of the over drive plate are just like you car or truck, lowers cruising rpm for lower cab noise and because it lowers the RPM it increases gas mileage.
